Italian Galleries at Art Basel Miami Beach: Mixed Results but Steady Sales

At Art Basel Miami Beach 2018, ten Italian galleries reported moderate satisfaction despite slower attendance. Galleria Paci (Brescia) sold works by Nancy Burson to a Chicago foundation and secured a loan request from the National Gallery of Washington. Alfonso Artiaco (Naples) sold important pieces but noted lower foot traffic. Franco Noero (Turin) reported good sales and a better booth location. Prometeo Gallery (Lucca/Milan) sold a series by Beto Shwafaty to a New York collector and is negotiating with a Los Angeles museum. Magazzino (Rome) sold a video by Fiamma Montezemolo to a Chicago new media foundation. Mazzoleni (Turin) sold works by Burri, Fontana, and others to American and South American collectors. The fair ran from December 5–9, 2018.
