Italian filmmaker Giuliano Montaldo died at his home in Rome at age 93. He was a director, screenwriter, and actor, and served as head of Rai Cinema from 1999 to 2004. His most famous films include "Sacco e Vanzetti" (1971), which won the Palme d'Or at Cannes, and "Giordano Bruno" (1973). Montaldo began his career as an actor, notably in Carlo Lizzani's "Achtung! Banditi!" He made his directorial debut in 1961 with "Tiro al piccione" and gained international success with the thriller "Gli intoccabili" (1969).
