Italian feminist magazine NoiDonne turns 80, launches digital archive
The Italian feminist magazine NoiDonne has digitized its historical archive, making over 2,200 issues and 120,000 pages available online for free. Founded in 1944 with clandestine editions distributed by partisan couriers, the publication is the longest-running Italian women's periodical. The archive includes all issues from the 1944-45 underground bulletins to the present. The digitization project began in summer 2000 under director Tiziana Bartolini and archive manager Costanza Fanelli, gaining momentum in 2017 with support from the Presidency of the Council's Mission Structure for National and International Anniversaries and the Unipolis Foundation. Since 2018, the Department of Humanities at Roma Tre University has collaborated, taking charge of issues from the 1950s and promoting academic use. The physical archive is housed at the Casa Internazionale delle donne in Rome, where the magazine's editorial office is also located. NoiDonne transitioned from a monthly print magazine to an online weekly, focusing on current affairs from a female perspective. Bartolini emphasizes the magazine's role in documenting Italian history, women's rights, and editorial evolution. The free-access website features an internal search engine for browsing.
