Italian fashion journalist Giusi Ferré dies at 76

Giusi Ferré, a pioneering Italian fashion journalist known for her independent voice and sharp cultural analysis, died on April 15, 2022, at age 76. Born in 1946, she built a career outside the mainstream fashion system as a freelancer, earning respect for her deep knowledge of fashion history and socio-economic contexts. She began at magazines like Epoca, Linea Italiana, and Linea Sport, later joining L'Europeo where she conducted the first interview with Miuccia Prada. From 1998 to 2000, she co-directed Amica. Her popular column "Buccia di Banana" (later "Tocchi di classe") on Io Donna, launched in 1998, humorously critiqued celebrity style and was adapted into a book and TV show on Lei TV. She also served as a judge on Italy's Next Top Model. Ferré wrote extensively for Corriere Economia, covering Made in Italy and fashion industry socio-economic phenomena. She authored books on Gianfranco Ferré, Giorgio Armani, Timberlandia, Fragiacomo, and Pomellato. She was a mentor to emerging designers like Gianfranco Ferré, Gianni Versace, Romeo Gigli, and Giorgio Armani, who publicly mourned her. Colleagues recall her modesty, civic sense, love for Milan, and support for young talent. She received the Ambrogino d'Oro from Milan for fashion journalism. Ferré is remembered for her red-orange curly hair, sharp wit, and independence. She was often accompanied by friend Matteo Osso.
