Italian Design Exhibition in Brazil Features Classic Cars, Furniture, and Art

The exhibition 'Beleza em Movimento – Ícones do Design Italiano' at Casa Fiat de Cultura in Belo Horizonte explores Italian design through a diverse array of objects, including classic automobiles, furniture, domestic utensils, and multimedia installations. Curated by Peter Fassbender with collaboration from architect and historian Maddalena D’Alfonso, the show presents vehicles from five major Italian car design offices—Bertone, Zagato, Touring Superleggera, Pininfarina, and GFG Style—featuring models like the Lamborghini 400 GT and Ferrari Testarossa. Iconic design pieces such as Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni's Radiofonografo RR126 and Gaetano Pesce's UP5 armchair illustrate the field's lyrical inspiration. D’Alfonso explains that Italian design connects new technologies with a forward-facing approach, transferring artistic wisdom into products. The exhibition includes a section on Futurism with works by Umberto Boccioni from MAC-SP and an immersive room with clips from neorealist films by directors like Vittorio De Sica and Federico Fellini, highlighting the automobile as a cultural symbol of hope. Fassbender, director of the Design Center LATAM at Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, emphasizes that car design is an artistic creation. Running until November 3 with free admission, the exhibition is housed in the vast space of Casa Fiat de Cultura at Praça da Liberdade, 10.
