Italian Design Day Showcases Six Contemporary Designers at São Paulo's Italian Cultural Institute
The exhibition '5 + 1' at the Instituto Italiano de Cultura de São Paulo presents six prominent Italian contemporary designers. It features five previous 'Designer of the Year' winners from the BOOMSPDESIGN forum—Matteo Cibic, Marcantonio, Francesco Maccapani Missoni, Simone Micheli, and Antonio Aricò—alongside Sara Ricciardi, the current honoree and first woman in the group. Curated by Beto Cocenza, the show runs from March 9 to May 2, 2024, at Av. Higienópolis, 436, in São Paulo, with free admission Monday to Friday from 10am to 7pm and Saturdays from 10:30am to 12:30pm and 1:30pm to 5:30pm. This marks the sixth collaboration between the institute and BOOMSPDESIGN, which was founded by Cocenza in 2008 as a key Brazilian design debate forum. Part of the Italian Design Day global initiative promoted by the Italian government, the exhibition highlights cultural exchange, with some works conceived in Italy and produced in Brazil. The Instituto Italiano de Cultura de São Paulo, founded in 1950 and located in a historic mansion in Higienópolis, hosts over 23,000 titles in its library and regularly promotes cultural events. The show offers a panorama of current Italian production, emphasizing formal experimentation, craftsmanship, industry, and conceptual narratives.
