Italian Culture Ministry to Hire Over 2,000 New Staff by End of 2025

institutional · 2026-04-26

The Italian Ministry of Culture (MiC) has announced a major recruitment plan to hire over 2,000 new permanent employees by the end of 2025, following a decree by Public Administration Minister Paolo Zangrillo in early August. The plan is part of a broader initiative authorizing more than 9,000 permanent hires across 33 public administrations. A national competition will be announced in autumn 2025. The first phase includes 550 hires by year-end: 300 assistants and 250 officials. The second phase will add 2,200 permanent staff, with roles including 1,800 assistants (1,500 for surveillance, 300 for technical profiles) and 400 officials (300 librarians, 100 architects). The librarians will strengthen state libraries, while architects will focus on preserving historic buildings and museum complexes. Minister Zangrillo stated the goal is to improve service quality for citizens and businesses, noting that resources from budget maneuvers made the hires possible. He also confirmed that negotiations for the 2025-2027 contract renewals are underway.
