Italian Cultural World Rises Against Eviction of Carla Lonzi Archive from Galleria Nazionale

The decision by the Galleria Nazionale d'Arte Moderna e Contemporanea in Rome to end the loan agreement for the Carla Lonzi Archive three years prematurely has ignited protests within the Italian cultural sector. Annarosa Buttarelli, the archive's scientific director, was pivotal in initiating the demonstrations, which have now garnered attention in Parliament through MP Luana Zanella (Alleanza Verdi e Sinistra). Organizations such as Orlando, CUNSTA, and SISCA have publicly condemned the rationale provided by director Renata Cristina Mazzantini, asserting that museums ought to focus on research and the acquisition of archives. They are calling for a public discussion with Mazzantini and increased financial support from the Ministry of Culture. Stefano Chiodi of CUNSTA criticized the move, warning it could deter future donations and result in the loss of significant archives.
