Italian cultural venues allowed increased capacity from September 29

cultural-heritage · 2026-04-27

Italy's Technical Scientific Committee (CTS) has approved increased capacity for cultural venues, including theaters, cinemas, and concert halls, citing positive epidemiological trends and vaccination progress. Outdoor sports venues can now operate at 75% capacity (up from 50%), indoor at 50% (up from 25%). For cultural events, a gradual reopening aims for 100% outdoor and 80% indoor capacity, with mandatory green pass and surgical masks. Museums face no specific limits but must manage flows to avoid crowding. The decision awaits government approval on September 29. Directors Andrea Bruciati (Villa d'Este and Villa Adriana) and Lorenzo Giusti (GAMeC) welcomed the move, noting museums are already prepared with timed entry and social distancing. Discotheques remain unaddressed.
