Italian Council: 621,000 euro available for promoting Italian art abroad
The fifth edition of Italian Council, an initiative by Italy's DGAAP (Direzione Generale Arte e Architettura Contemporanee e Periferie Urbane) under the Ministry of Cultural Heritage, offers 621,000 euro to fund projects that produce Italian artworks for public collections. Applications are open until March 7, 2019. Federica Galloni, Director of DGAAP, stated that in 2017-2018, 34 projects were supported involving over 100 international institutions, with total funding exceeding 3 million euro. The call prioritizes projects involving foreign entities and Italian Cultural Institutes abroad, as well as participation in international cultural events. Each winning project can receive up to 140,000 euro, not exceeding 80% of the total budget. Eligible applicants include museums, public and private non-profit entities, universities, foundations, and cultural associations. Artists must be Italian citizens active in visual arts with at least one solo exhibition in a significant venue. Projects must fall under public commission, public acquisition, or residency for art production. A new archive website, Italian Council. The Archive, has been launched to document past projects.
