Italian Contemporary Art at the Italian Embassy in Bucharest
The Italian Embassy in Bucharest has launched 'Comodato d'artista', a project promoting Italian contemporary art in Romania. Curated by art historian Ilaria Bernardi, the initiative features works by Diego Perrone, Marinella Senatore, and Vedovamazzei, who have lent their pieces for four years. The artworks are displayed at the Ambassador's Residence, a rationalist-style building from the late 19th century that already houses contemporary pieces like Marco Petrus's tapestry 'Sequenze 2011' and Roman Tolici's works. Vedovamazzei's neon '+39 Italian Flag' and Diego Perrone's 'Senza titolo (2020)' are installed in the entrance staircase, while Marinella Senatore's 'Music (2022)'—a wallpaper photograph from her participatory project 'Piccolo Caos' involving over 600 citizens of Cagliari—is in the central salon. The project is supported by galleries Mazzoleni and Massimo De Carlo and was initiated by Ambassador Alfredo Durante Mangoni, appointed in July 2021. The Residence hosts heads of state, politicians, diplomats, and intellectuals, providing a platform to continuously promote Italian art in Romania and globally.
