Italian Collectors Champion Women Photographers: Pizzi and Baretto Collections

Donata Pizzi and Vittorio Baretto, two Italian collectors, have made remarkable strides in assembling collections of female photographers, countering the traditionally male-centric art scene. Pizzi, who is also a photographer, initiated her collection in January 2015, culminating in the "L'altro sguardo. Fotografe Italiane 1965-2015" exhibition at Triennale di Milano in October 2016, which drew 25,000 attendees. Her curated selection features artists such as Lisetta Carmi and Carla Cerati, overseen by Raffaella Perna. Baretto began his collection in the mid-1980s, emphasizing contemporary photography with notable figures like Cindy Sherman and Roni Horn, highlighted in "Arte" in March 2004. He plans to auction his pieces on April 17 at Il Ponte, while Pizzi's forthcoming exhibition is set for June 7 in Rome.
