Italian Cinema Summer 2024: From Blockbusters to Restored Classics

The Italian summer cinema season faces challenges with fewer blockbusters compared to 2023's Barbie and Oppenheimer. Key releases include Inside Out 2 (June 19), Twisters (July 17), and Deadpool & Wolverine (July 24). From July 1 to August 19, every Monday will feature all Spider-Man films. On July 4, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban and Marco Bellocchio's Sbatti il mostro in prima pagina (restored by Cineteca di Bologna) return. Nexo Digital, celebrating Titanus's 120th anniversary, screens five Italian classics from June 27: La Ciociara (July 4-10), Rocco e i suoi fratelli (July 11-17), Pane amore e fantasia (July 18-24), and La prima notte di quiete (July 25-31). New releases include Io e Sissi (July 4), directed by Frauke Finsterwalder starring Sandra Hüller, and Kevin Costner's Horizon – An American Saga (July 4). From July 11-17, the series Dostoevskij by Fratelli D'Innocenzo with Filippo Timi plays in theaters. Also on July 11: Non riattaccare by Manfredi Lucibello with Barbara Ronchi and Claudio Santamaria, and Fly Me to the Moon starring Scarlett Johansson, Woody Harrelson, Channing Tatum, set during the Apollo 11 moon landing.
