Italian artist Tullio Brunone dies at 80

Tullio Brunone, an Italian artist born in 1946 in Alexandria, Egypt, died on April 21, 2026. He studied at the Accademia di Brera in Milan. Brunone was a protagonist of the Laboratorio di Comunicazione Militante from 1976 to 1978, an experience invited by Enrico Crispolti to the 1976 Venice Biennale. He later co-founded the Scuola di Nuove Tecnologie at Brera in the 1990s with Paolo Rosa and others. His work explored interaction and anticipation of selfie culture, as he explained in a 2024 interview for the book "Lo sguardo indagato" (Scalpendi). He collaborated with computer scientist Norberto Serana. Recently, he created unpublished drawings on Elio Vittorini's Milan. His last exhibition was at miart, dedicated by Galleria Clivio di Milano. Despite severe illness, he enrolled in an AI course shortly before his death.
