Italian artist photographer Claudio Abate dies at 74

Claudio Abate, a celebrated Italian photographer, passed away in Rome at the age of 74, according to his family’s announcement. His funeral service is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Monday, August 7, 2023, at the Church of the Artists located in Piazza del Popolo. Born in Rome in 1943, Abate discovered his passion for photography at just 12 years old. Following his father's passing, he apprenticed under Michelangelo Como and joined the Press Service Agency at 16. He captured significant events in Italian art, such as Jannis Kounellis's 1969 installation and Gino De Dominicis's 'Zodiaco' in 1970. His inaugural solo exhibition took place in 1979, and he showcased his work at notable venues, including the Venice Biennale in 1993 and Galleria Mara Coccia in 2010.
