Italian Artist Francesco Caporale Sets Guinness World Record for Largest Hand-Drawn Artwork

Italian artist Francesco Caporale, known as FRA!, has set a Guinness World Record for the largest hand-drawn artwork by a single person. The 568.47-square-meter doodle art piece, titled DoodleDream, was created over five days in the main square of Altomonte, a small town in the province of Cosenza, Italy, and his birthplace. Using only an indelible marker, Caporale filled the enormous canvas with multiplying graphic motifs. The project was realized in collaboration with Xiaomi, the Chinese tech giant, which created an online platform where users could submit their own doodles; these were then reproduced and incorporated into the final artwork. Caporale, who has a background in graphic advertising and art direction, has been practicing doodle art for seven years. He describes the style as 'the art of the error' and a 'controlled chaos,' emphasizing that it is accessible and democratic, much like Xiaomi's corporate philosophy. The record was awarded in the category 'Largest hand-drawn artwork by a single person.' Caporale noted that beyond the record, the project served as a beacon of hope during the COVID-19 pandemic, involving the local community of Altomonte and engaging a wide audience on social media.
