Italian artist Francesca Tulli dies at 68
Francesca Tulli, an Italian painter and sculptor, died at age 68 after a long illness. Born in Rome in 1956, she graduated in sculpture from the Accademia di Belle Arti di Roma and worked there throughout her life. Her works were exhibited internationally in Boston, Buenos Aires, Geneva, Helsinki, Beijing, and Ubud, as well as in Italian public and private spaces. Her piece "Umana Natura" was permanently installed in 2018 at the Parco di Sculture in Campo in Bassano in Teverina (Viterbo). In 2020 she held solo shows "Mutanti" at Galleria KOU in Rome and "Sculture" in the garden of the Palazzo Comunale di Latina. She participated in the 54th Venice Biennale (2011, Italian Pavilion), the Premio Fabbri at Villa delle Rose in Bologna (2009), and the Quadriennale di Roma (1996). Her work is held in collections of BNL PARIBAS, Banca d'Italia, Comune di Latina, and Galleria Comunale d'Arte Moderna di Roma. Critic Massimo Scaringella described her practice as a constant displacement of the gaze, with compositions that balance purity and organization. Her art explored the tension between real and surreal, using bronze, terracotta, iron, sand, and LED lights.
