Italian artist Bruno Di Bello dies at 81, pioneer of light and photography
Bruno Di Bello, originally from Torre del Greco and born in 1938, died in Milan in 2019 at the age of 81. He was a key figure in the Gruppo '58, working alongside notable artists like Lucio del Pezzo and Mario Colucci, and he was a vocal opponent of abstract art, co-signing the Manifeste de Naples in 1959. After moving to Milan in 1967, he joined the Mec-Art movement introduced by Pierre Restany. Di Bello was known for his innovative use of photosensitive canvas, creating art with light and shadows. His notable work, 'Apollo e Dafne nel terremoto' from 1987, was part of the Terrae motus exhibition in Paris and is now in the Reggia di Caserta. In the 1990s, he explored digital photography and fractals, showing his work internationally. His first solo show occurred in Milan at Galleria Toselli in 1969-70, followed by a significant installation at Studio Marconi. A major retrospective, 'Antologia', featuring Bruno Corà's writing, was held in 2010.
