Italian Art Historians Protest Ministry's Plan to Let Hiring List Expire

institutional · 2026-04-21

The CISDA committee is voicing its opposition to the Italian Ministry of Culture's choice to allow the public competition ranking for 204 qualified art historians to expire on May 30, 2026. This ranking, resulting from the MiC 518 competition for Art Historian Functionary, has never previously been permitted to lapse. In response, a parliamentary inquiry has been posed to Culture Minister Alessandro Giuli. CISDA points out that this is the sole unfilled professional role from the recruitment competition, highlighting issues of discrimination. Additionally, the Ministry has recently announced a new competition for 577 functionary positions, indicating a staffing requirement. A protest vigil is planned for April 28 from 12:00 to 14:30 outside the Ministry's headquarters in Rome.
