Italian art historian Sandra Pinto dies in Rome
Sandra Pinto, a distinguished Italian art historian, passed away in Rome. She was an esteemed honorary member of the Accademia delle Arti del Disegno in Florence, celebrated for her contributions to museology. Pinto was instrumental in reorganizing and cataloging 19th-century artworks at the academy. After graduating in 1962, she worked as an assistant professor at the University of Rome until 1969. From 1969 to 1980, she led the Galleria Moderna di Palazzo Pitti, followed by her role at the Archivio delle Collezioni Asiatiche at the Museo Nazionale d'Arte Orientale from 1981 to 1986. Pinto held the position of Superintendent for Artistic and Historical Heritage of Piedmont (1987-1994) and of the Galleria Nazionale d'Arte Moderna in Rome (1995-2004). She co-edited "Gli storici dell'arte e la peste" (2006) and authored numerous publications. Claudio Gamba remarked on her hope for younger generations to carry on her mission of heritage preservation.
