Italian architects launch digital marathon to rethink post-COVID cities

On May 23, 2020, the Italian National Council of Architects, Planners, Landscapers and Conservators (CNAPPC) hosted the online event "L'architettura è cultura e bene comune" on the platform architettiperilfuturo.it. The digital marathon aimed to foster dialogue among architects, planners, citizens, institutions, and businesses to reimagine Italy's urban and territorial development after the COVID-19 crisis. CNAPPC President Giuseppe Cappochin emphasized the pandemic as an opportunity for radical change in housing, mobility, and services. Speakers included Federico Parolotto (co-founder of MIC Mobility In Chain), Ferruccio Resta (rector of Politecnico di Milano), and Mario Cucinella, among other members of the CNAPPC Scientific Committee. The event revolved around five themes: designing for global challenges 2030/50, Italy as a network of resilient cities, sustainable living, urban regeneration, and new virtuous models. A ten-point Manifesto titled "L'architettura è cultura e bene comune" was published on the platform, addressing sustainable architecture (aligned with the 17 Sustainable Development Goals), urban regeneration, and architecture as multidisciplinary knowledge. The website architettiperilfuturo.it will remain active until autumn to collect ideas and proposals to be submitted to institutions.
