Italgas Donates Oliviero Rainaldi's Public Art to Turin

cultural-heritage · 2026-04-27

Italgas, Italy's leading natural gas distributor founded nearly 200 years ago in Turin, has donated a permanent public artwork by Oliviero Rainaldi to the city. The sculpture group, titled 'Flammarion', was inaugurated as part of the redesign of Largo Regio Parco and Italgas's renovated Turin headquarters. The work consists of a main sculptural group in iridescent blue painted aluminum, symbolizing the gas flame, placed at Largo Regio Parco 9, and two single elements at Largo Regio Parco 11 and Corso Palermo 4. Inspired by constellations studied by astronomer Camille Flammarion in the late 19th century, the installation aims to revitalize the area. The project is part of a larger redevelopment by Giugiaro Architettura, involving over €60 million investment, including workspace redesign, bike lanes, green areas, and urban furniture. Italgas President Alberto Dell'Acqua stated the donation strengthens the company's historical bond with Turin and gives back to the territory. The building at Largo Regio Parco 11 also houses the Heritage Lab Italgas, a physical and virtual space created with Fondazione Giorgio Cini for digitizing Italgas's historical archive, library, and museum collections, including 3D scanning of archaeological finds. CEO Paolo Gallo emphasized the Lab aims to engage citizens, businesses, schools, and local institutions.
