Istituto Centrale per la Grafica Celebrates 50 Years with Exhibition of Recent Acquisitions
The Istituto Centrale per la Grafica in Rome is marking its 50th anniversary with an exhibition of recent acquisitions at Palazzo Poli, running until March 23, 2025. The show features 60 previously unseen works spanning from the 16th century to contemporary art, including drawings, prints, photographs, videos, and artist books. Highlights include a 16th-century drawing by Parmigianino, a 1720 pen-and-ink wash by Caspar Van Wittel, and an 11-meter preparatory sketch by William Kentridge for his Tiber project 'Triumphs and Laments'. The exhibition is organized across two floors: the first floor focuses on historical works, including a 1780 watercolor by Giovanni Battista Lusieri, sketchbooks by Carlo Simonetta and Angelo Uggeri, and works by 20th-century artists such as Umberto Boccioni, Egon Schiele, Gustav Klimt, Alberto Burri, and Alexander Calder. The ground floor is dedicated to photography and video, featuring early 20th-century views by Bruno Miniati, portraits by Ghitta Carrel, and contemporary works by Simona Ghizzoni, Armin Linke, Silvia Camporesi, Antonio Biasucci, Marta Roberti, and Goldshmied & Chiari. The exhibition also includes a section on artist books by Pizzi Cannella, Nunzio, Lisetta Carmi, Lucio Fontana, and Jean Dubuffet. Curated by director Maura Picciau, the show highlights the evolution of graphic arts from the Renaissance to today.
