Istanbul's Galerist presents 'The Volcano Lover' group exhibition exploring volcanic paradoxes

exhibition · 2026-04-22

Istanbul's Galerist is presenting 'The Volcano Lover,' a curated group show by Anlam Arslanoglu de Coster that delves into volcanoes as emblems of both destruction and rebirth. The exhibition features works from 39 artists spanning from the eighteenth century to the present. Notable pieces include Ahmet Doğu İpek's 'Caecus and Albino' (2025), Jen Hitchings' oil depiction of Yellowstone, and Alex Červený's self-portrait enveloped in volcanic smoke. Elif Uras' 'Kundalini II' (2025) reflects on volcanic femininity. Inspired by Susan Sontag's 1992 novel, the display also showcases Yıldız Moran's photography and Pietro Fabris' engravings. Hera Büyüktaşcıyan's 'Icons for Tired Skin' (2024-2025) incorporates industrial carpet. The exhibition is open until April 26 in a 19th-century apartment with views of the Golden Horn.
