Istanbul Modern Opens First Photography Group Show in New Building

Istanbul Modern has launched 'Panorama: Dreams and Places,' marking the inaugural group photography exhibition in its newly constructed venue. Curated by Artistic Director Çelenk Bafra alongside Photography Curator Demet Yıldız Dinçer, with contributions from Selen Erkal and Şevval Yürüten, the exhibition showcases the work of 18 artists, including Larissa Araz, İlgen Arzık, and Emre Baykal, among others. Many artists present new pieces and site-specific installations. The exhibition occupies several galleries on the first floor and features a 'Dream Library' filled with photography books and catalogues with views of the Bosphorus. Supported by Burgan Yatırım, it investigates dreamlike landscapes and alternative spatial concepts through various media. The bilingual catalogue includes writings by Bafra, Dinçer, and advisory board members. Bafra describes 'Panorama' as a foundational title for a series of research-focused group exhibitions, while Dinçer highlights its focus on global shifts in lens-based art.
