Israel's First Biennale of Art, Design and Craft Opens at MUSA

festival-fair · 2026-04-27

The inaugural Biennale of Art, Design and Craft in Israel, titled 'First Person, Second Nature', commenced at MUSA – Eretz Israel Museum in Tel Aviv, showcasing around 1,000 artworks by 250 artists. Established in 1959, this museum ranks among the largest in Israel, featuring 15 pavilions. After 22 years of thematic biennials, Chief Curator Debby Herschman launched this event with a focus on materials, collaborating with five curators, including Nir Harmat, to highlight interdisciplinary approaches. The exhibition encompasses site-specific pieces, outdoor installations, and the main Rothschild Pavilion. Concept designer Chanan de Lange devised 'archipelagos' to guide visitor flow. Artists, aged 18 to 82, were chosen from over 3,000 submissions. The biennale continues until next spring, with plans for future expansions into urban areas by MUSA Director Ami Katz.
