Israel Hershberg's Solo Exhibition 'From Afar' Opens at Marlborough Chelsea in September 2009

exhibition · 2026-04-22

Israel Hershberg's solo exhibition 'From Afar' opened on Thursday at Marlborough Chelsea in September 2009. The show's title references both the distant perspectives from which Hershberg paints his panoramas and the Hebrew word for 'dust.' His eight-foot-wide canvases, described in a 'cinescope' format, depict vistas that often revisit vantage points from Corot paintings, which Hershberg terms 'C-spots.' Alongside his exhibition, a sculptural installation by Will Ryman, artcritical's September 'logo artist,' was also on view. Hershberg, founder of the Jerusalem Studio School, which promotes traditional painting techniques and operates a summer program in Umbria, wrote about the dust in the aria defining a measured diaphanous volume. A gala for the Jerusalem Studio School is scheduled for September 16 at Andrea Meislin Gallery.
