Isola Art Center Launches Utopia Research Project with Exhibition in San Mauro Cilento
The Isola Art Center in Milan has initiated a comprehensive exploration of utopian political ideas through an exhibition in San Mauro Cilento, Salerno, in collaboration with CreativeOlive. Over a span of five days, more than 50 artists, activists, and theorists engaged in various activities, including debates, performances, and installations. Among the featured works was 'Solar Cloud,' an inflatable sculpture by Serbian artist Nikola Uzunovski that harnesses solar energy. Other notable participants included BAD Museum, Zanny Begg, and Angelo Castucci. The exhibition reflected on the historical challenges of achieving utopia, drawing connections to the events of 1968 in Paris. Additionally, Zanny Begg's artwork 'Monument to the III International (2014)' referenced Tatlin's 1919 monument. A presentation is set for Riga in September 2014, examining art's capacity to challenge skepticism regarding political aspirations during a time of shortened Italian summer holidays.
