Ishaan Adams' 'Levantando el polvo: El archivo del cuerpo' at Guggenheim Bilbao
The Guggenheim Museum Bilbao is showcasing 'Levantando el polvo: El archivo del cuerpo,' an installation by Ishaan Adams, a South African artist born in Cape Town in 1982. Curated by Lekha Hileman, this exhibit will be available until November 1, 2026. As part of the museum's 'in situ' initiative, Adams delves into themes of identity, religion, and societal frameworks through his sculptures, textiles, and installations. His upbringing in Bonteheuwel, influenced by displacement and segregation, informs his artistic approach. In collaboration with the Garage Dance Ensemble, dancers leave 'dance traces' on linoleum, transforming them into hanging tapestries. The installation encourages visitor engagement, connecting body, space, and perception while advocating for weaving as a way to foster shared experiences and reinterpret fragmented histories.
