ISEA 2010: Latin American Presence and Arctic Perspective Exhibition

festival-fair · 2026-04-23

The 2010 International Symposium on Electronic Arts (ISEA) took place from August 20-29 across Essen, Dortmund, and Duisburg, the European Capital of Culture. Organized by Director Andreas Broeckmann, the event celebrated the Ruhr's industrial legacy in a festival format. A notable milestone was the inclusion of Latin American artists, challenging ISEA's previous Anglo-Saxon focus. A key topic was techno-ecology, featuring seven discussions on the preservation of electronic and digital art. Following the symposium, four exhibitions remained open, along with several musical performances. The highlight was 'Arctic Perspective,' curated by Inke Arns, which presented Marko Peljhan's work that delved into Arctic issues through various artistic and functional items, such as maps, a Kallitaq model, a hydroponic greenhouse, Inuit films, submarine models, and the Common Data Processing and Display Unit (CDPDU).
