Isael Maxakali has been declared the winner of the 2020 PIPA Online Prize after 16 days of voting. The artist, a resident of Aldeia Hãm Kutok in Minas Gerais, received 4,191 votes from a total of 33,038 cast among 56 participants. His victory comes with a R$ 15,000 donation, and he is required to donate a work to the Instituto PIPA, to be selected in agreement with the artist and the coordination. Maxakali, who identifies as Tikmū’ūn, stated that his work in film and drawing aims to make his people known, asserting that his recognition and prizes are shared by his community. This marks the third time the online category has awarded an Indigenous artist, fulfilling its goal to increase visibility for artists less present in the Rio-São Paulo axis. The PIPA emphasizes that the platform provides equal access for all voters to view each artist's work and trajectory.
