Isa Genzken's Rose III installed at Zuccotti Park, New York

A permanent public sculpture by German artist Isa Genzken, titled Rose III (2016), has been installed at Zuccotti Park in New York City, a site symbolic of the Occupy Wall Street movement. The 8-meter-tall painted steel rose, with red and yellow petals, commemorates the 10th anniversary of the Lehman Brothers collapse and the broader financial crisis that began in 2008. The work was donated by collector Lonti Ebers to Brookfield Properties, which owns and manages the park, and was realized through a collaboration among Galerie Buchholz, David Zwirner, and Hauser & Wirth. Laura Hoptman, executive director of the Drawing Center and former New Museum curator, described the sculpture as "a strong statement of equality for New York." The installation coincides with the reopening of the WTC Cortland subway station on September 8, 2018, after a $181 million renovation, featuring a mosaic by American artist Ann Hamilton that incorporates texts from the U.S. Declaration of Independence and the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
