Irvine Welsh announces 'Men in Love', sequel to Trainspotting, for 2025
Irvine Welsh has announced a direct sequel to his 1993 novel Trainspotting, titled Men in Love, set for release in 2025. The book will follow the original characters—Mark Renton, Spud Murphy, Sick Boy, and Franco Begbie—as older, less rebellious men seeking redemption through love. Set in the late 1980s, after punk and before acid house, during Thatcher's era, the novel will be accompanied by a disco-soul album recorded by Welsh with his band Soul Orchestra. Welsh previously explored the Trainspotting universe through spin-off novels Porno (2002), Skagboys (2012), and Dead Men's Trousers (2018), but this is the first direct sequel. The original novel sold over a million copies in the UK and was translated into 30 languages, while Danny Boyle's 1996 film adaptation starring Ewan McGregor became a cultural landmark of the 1990s.
