Iris van Herpen's Biomorphic Couture at Brooklyn Museum

exhibition · 2026-05-11

From May 16 to December 6, the Brooklyn Museum is hosting "Iris van Herpen: Sculpting the Senses," which celebrates the Dutch designer's two-decade journey in fashion. Curated by Matthew Yokobosky and Imani Williford, this showcase originally launched at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris earlier this year and features over 140 creations. Van Herpen draws inspiration from nature, using elements like coral, algae, and bird wings, and her work is displayed alongside contemporary artists such as Agostino Arrivabene and Tara Donovan. Noteworthy pieces include designs worn by celebrities like Lady Gaga and Björk, along with a striking blood-red dress from the upcoming film "Mother Mary," which Anne Hathaway will wear. Since 2010, she has been a leader in 3D-printed fashion, collaborating with Philip Beesley and celebrating nature's beauty.
