Iris Biasio: The Rising Star of Italian Comics

artist · 2026-04-27

Iris Biasio, born in 1994 in Cittadella, Italy, is rapidly emerging as a leading voice in Italian comics. She recently received a special mention for Best First Work at the Micheluzzi Awards during Comicon Napoli. Her debut graphic novel, 'Mia sorella è pazza' (published by Rizzoli Lizard in July 2022), explores the relationship between two sisters, Rita and Francesca, set against a psychiatric care backdrop. The book won the Premio Cecchetto for emerging artist at the Treviso Comic Book Festival. Biasio, who studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice, founded her own self-publishing imprint, NeroVite. She describes her creative process as a synthesis of 'blood and common sense,' blending authentic experience with reader engagement. Her style, influenced by manga and ink drawing, is clean and deliberate. Upcoming projects include a new book with MalEdizioni in September, reprinting two short stories plus an original medium-length work. For Artribune, she created a comic inspired by an unfinished fragment by Katherine Mansfield titled 'Era una grande casa vuota.' Biasio also teaches comics in libraries and schools.
