Iris Apfel's private collection to be auctioned by Christie's

Nearly a year after her death, the private collection of style icon and interior designer Iris Apfel will be auctioned by Christie's. The online sale runs from January 28 to February 13, 2025, featuring over 200 lots including clothing, accessories, furniture, and her signature oversized round glasses. Highlights include a Dior Haute Couture feathered fur coat, a vintage Norman Norell polka-dot taffeta dress, 18 pairs of distinctive eyewear, a wooden ostrich concealing a bar, and a Louis XVI-style chaise embellished with her portrait. The lots, curated by Christie's specialist Elizabeth Siegel, will be exhibited in Miami, Palm Beach, and New York. Starting bids are around $100, with total estimates exceeding $250,000. Apfel, who died in March 2024 at age 102, was known for her eclectic, colorful style and her motto 'dare to be different.' She also worked on White House renovations for nine U.S. presidents, including Harry Truman and Bill Clinton.
