Irene Fenara and Carlo e Fabio Ingrassia at Palazzo Braschi for Quadriennale di Roma
The Quadriennale di Roma presents two concurrent exhibitions at Palazzo Braschi: Irene Fenara's 'Portfolio' section (until April 9) and Carlo e Fabio Ingrassia's 'Paesaggio' section (until May 17). Fenara, born in Bologna in 1990, works with optical errors from surveillance cameras, creating large-format prints from unretouched footage where nature obstructs or colors distort. Her series 'Supervision' (2018–ongoing) captures these anomalies, which she describes as moments when 'the machine loses its functionality and aesthetics emerge.' Gian Maria Tosatti, artistic director of the Quadriennale, notes a reciprocity between the two works: Fenara extracts human observation from a device, while the Ingrassia twins (born in Catania, 1985) produce 'faithful reconstruction of a human space' where their eye becomes mechanical. Their piece 'Astrazione novecentista (La Casa Rossa)' (2011–12), inspired by Michelangelo Pistoletto's essay 'L'arte radicale di Carlo e Fabio Ingrassia' (Pistoletto's own exhibition recently opened at DART ‒ Chiostro del Bramante), uses pastel colors and a small format on Schoeller paper set into the wall, evoking a dollhouse window. The artists state: 'The contemporaneity of every artistic experience has an ancient dignity.'
