Iragüen Viñuela Arquitectos completes 2020 house on Cautín River platform in Malalcahuello

architecture-design · 2026-04-07

Architects Daniel Iragüen Contreras and Claudio Viñuela Schweitzer of Iragüen Viñuela Arquitectos completed a 143-square-meter house in 2020 in Malalcahuello, Chile. The project began when clients abandoned an earlier construction attempt but retained a steel platform on pile foundations, which dictated the building's position. This location occupies a natural forest clearing encircled by a bend in the Cautín River, offering favorable sunlight and scenic views. Collaborators Alexa Napp J. and Gustavo Schweitzer E. assisted, while builder Javier Viñuela executed the construction. Photographer Marcos Zegers documented the residence, which was curated by Valentina Díaz. The architects received the commission unexpectedly after the initial project was discarded.
