architecture-design · 2026-04-27

Ippolito Pestellini Laparelli, an urbanist affiliated with OMA from Italy, has been selected as the curator for the Russian Pavilion at the 17th Venice Architecture Biennale, which is set to commence on May 23, 2020. He succeeds Teresa Iarocci Mavica, who was appointed Commissioner just a month earlier. Mavica is the founder and director of the V-A-C Foundation, which inaugurated its Venice location in 2017. The strategic management is overseen by Smart Art, established by Anastasia Karneeva and Ekaterina Vinokurova. Pestellini Laparelli's initiative, named "Open!", invites young Russian architects to participate in the renovation of the historic Pavilion, originally designed by Alexey Shchusev in 1914. Proposals for restoration and a temporary studio will be accepted until January 31, 2020.
