Io sono cultura 2022: Italian cultural sector still recovering from pandemic

The latest report, the 12th edition of 'Io sono cultura' by Fondazione Symbola and Unioncamere, highlights that in 2021, Italy's cultural and creative industries provided employment for 1.5 million individuals and produced €88.6 billion. The value added was 4.8% lower than in 2019, contrasting with a 1.2% decrease in the general economy. The performing arts experienced a significant decline of 21.9% (€1.2 billion), while historical heritage saw an 11.8% drop (€361 million) and audiovisual and music sectors fell by 11.6% (€684 million). The publishing sector lost over 11,000 jobs, whereas video games rose by 7.6% and tourism grew by 4%. Northern Italy, particularly Milan, outperformed the south. Unioncamere's Andrea Prete stressed sustainability, and Ermete Realacci from Fondazione Symbola called for Italy to spearhead the New European Bauhaus initiative amid prevailing uncertainties.
