IO Interactive unveils 007 First Light, a James Bond origin game
At Sony's State of Play event, IO Interactive revealed the first trailer for 007 First Light, the first James Bond video game in a decade. The game reimagines the origins of the British spy, placing players as a 26-year-old, undisciplined James Bond who has not yet earned the 007 designation. The adventure spans the globe with lethal gadgets and new versions of M, Q, and Moneypenny. The James Bond film series has a history in video games, starting with a 1983 side-scrolling shooter by Parker Brothers, followed by the influential first-person shooter GoldenEye 007 (1997) based on the Pierce Brosnan film. Subsequent licenses passed through Electronic Arts, Sony, and Activision, but no game has been released since the 2015 flop James Bond: World of Espionage by Glu Mobile. The industry has generally moved away from licensed products. 007 First Light is scheduled for release in 2026 on Windows, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 4, and Xbox Series S/X.
