In June, the Floodlight Investigative Journalism Game Jam awarded Predatorgate, a narrative video game centered on the Greek Predator spyware controversy. Inspired by reporting from Inside Story, the game follows journalist Thanasis Koukakis, whose phone was compromised by spyware. Developed by Z. Daniel Barnett and Izzy Fiacco, this 30-minute experience allows players to explore the intricacies of surveillance. Barnett believes that gaming plays a vital role in promoting media literacy. Organized by OCCRP and the Gabo Foundation, the jam aims to transform investigative journalism into interactive experiences. Paul Radu from OCCRP highlights that games can captivate younger demographics. Other notable titles include The Uber Game by the Financial Times and Data Vault Canyon by CCIJ, with experts noting the potential for enhanced engagement while warning against trivialization.
