Invernomuto debuts TV series project 'Utu' at Gluck50

exhibition · 2026-05-05

The artist duo Invernomuto, comprising Simone Trabucchi and Simone Bertuzzi, premieres the pilot episode of their new project 'Utu' on December 6, 2016, at Gluck50 in Milan. Titled 'Calendoola', the work uses the narrative mechanisms of a TV series to blend reality and fiction. It was entirely shot during a residency at Gluck50. The episode freely adapts journalist Angus Gillies' 'Ngati Dread' reportage trilogy, chronicling events in Ruatoria, New Zealand, between 1985 and 1990, focusing on a conflict between local residents and a group of Rastafarian Maori. The story is told in Italian, English, and Spanish, incorporating performative elements characteristic of Invernomuto. Post-production heightens the narrative to surreal and unreal levels, marking the duo's first fictional narrative work. This follows their spring 2016 feature film 'Negus', which explored colonialism, Italian fascist rhetoric, and post-war propaganda through a story set in Africa. The pilot will be screened multiple times on December 6, with reservations required.
