Introduction to the Employee Manual: A Labor Antimanual for Cultural Workers

publication · 2026-04-24

"Introducción al manual del empleade," a labor anti-manual aimed at cultural workers in Central America and the Caribbean, has been released by TEOR/éTica, Beta-Local, and t-e-e. This publication presents strategies to combat precarization and neoliberal accumulation, posing inquiries about work and economies without offering specific guidance. The book is the culmination of nearly five years of dialogue among the involved organizations. In a recent interview, Paula Piedra, Nicolás Pradilla, and Sofía Gallisá Muriente underscored its significance for artists internationally, highlighting the globalization of art economies and advocating for diverse networks and hyperlocal practices. It critiques the notion of individual self-employment, referencing Joserramón Melendes and Audre Lorde. TEOR/éTica is based in San José, Costa Rica; Beta-Local is located in San Juan, Puerto Rico; and t-e-e operates out of Guadalajara, Mexico.
