Intesa Sanpaolo Unveils 'Una collezione inattesa' at Gallerie d'Italia in Milan

exhibition · 2026-04-27

Intesa Sanpaolo has opened a new temporary exhibition, 'Una collezione inattesa. Viaggio nel contemporaneo tra pittura e scultura,' at Gallerie d'Italia in Piazza della Scala, Milan. Curated by Luca Massimo Barbero, the show features over seventy works, many exhibited for the first time, drawn exclusively from the bank's own collections—including recent acquisitions, the UBI Banca heritage, and the Luigi e Peppino Agrati donation. The exhibition focuses on post-war Italian and international painting and sculpture, with works by Jean Hans Arp, Bruno De Toffoli, Lucio Fontana, Arturo Martini, Marino Marini, Giacomo Manzù, Fausto Melotti, Sol LeWitt, Robert Ryman, Piero Manzoni, Alberto Burri, Enrico Castellani, Carla Accardi, Giulio Turcato, Pietro Consagra, Bice Lazzari, Mario Nigro, Roman Opalka, Gerhard Richter, and others. The Agrati collection alone comprises over 500 works, including pieces by Robert Rauschenberg, Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, and Alighiero Boetti. The exhibition complements the permanent 'Cantiere del '900' display and aims to explore lesser-known narratives in 20th-century art. Giovanni Bazoli, President Emeritus of Intesa Sanpaolo, emphasized the bank's commitment to sharing its collections. The show is part of a broader program that includes a Mario Schifano focus at Gallerie d'Italia in Naples.
