Intesa Sanpaolo to Open New Gallerie d'Italia in Naples' Palazzo Piacentini

institutional · 2026-04-27

Intesa Sanpaolo is repurposing Palazzo Piacentini, a former Bank of Naples structure created by Marcello Piacentini between 1936 and 1939, into a new branch of the Gallerie d'Italia, which will take the place of Palazzo Zevallos Stigliano. The renovation is led by architect Michele De Lucchi. Spanning 10,000 square meters, the museum will feature a terrace on the fifth floor offering views and a restaurant. The ground floor will accommodate concerts and exhibitions, while the collection, including Caravaggio's "Martyrdom of Saint Ursula," will be showcased in the triple-height hall and Sala delle Assemblee. Lighting will be designed by Pietro Palladino. The move from Palazzo Zevallos Stigliano is anticipated to finish in early 2022, with a press preview scheduled for autumn 2021.
