Intesa Sanpaolo Opens Major New Museum in Naples with Caravaggio and Warhol
On May 21, Intesa Sanpaolo opened a new museum in Naples, relocating from Palazzo Zavallos Stigliano to the historic Banco di Napoli building at Via Toledo 177, which was designed by Marcello Piacentini in 1940. The revamped 10,000-square-meter facility, redesigned by Michele De Lucchi, now boasts three exhibition paths: an archaeological section featuring 500 Attic ceramics and Pompeian frescoes curated by Fabrizio Paolucci; a collection of Neapolitan and Southern Italian paintings, including pieces by Artemisia Gentileschi and Caravaggio, curated by Fernando Mazzocca; and contemporary art curated by Luca Massimo Barbero, showcasing artists such as Andy Warhol. The ground floor presents the XIX "Restituzioni" exhibition. Minister Dario Franceschini highlighted the cultural significance of Naples, with a gathering of European culture ministers scheduled for June 16. CEO Carlo Messina's plan for 2022–2025 includes expanding venues in Milan and Vicenza.
