Interview with Artpool Cofounder Júlia Klaniczay on the 1984 Censored Exhibition Hungary Can Be Yours
In January 1984, György Galántai curated the exhibition Hungary Can Be Yours/International Hungary at Budapest's Young Artists’ Club, showcasing works related to Hungary. Prior to its inauguration, Communist officials prohibited the event, with a jury that included András Baranyai and Ádám Kéri endorsing the censorship. The exhibition was only open for three days, exclusively for invited attendees. Following political shifts, it was restaged in December 1989, featuring previously censored works and a dialogue with Attila Zsigmond. Additional reconstructions took place in 2000 and 2001 at Artpool P60 and the Centralis Gallery. The Artpool Archive, founded in 1979, maintains all pieces from the exhibition, and an interview in January 2011 explores its political relevance.
