Interplay Festival 2019: 23 Companies from 10 Nations in Turin
The 19th edition of the Interplay festival takes place in Turin from May 21 to 31, 2019, featuring 23 dance companies from 10 countries. Curator Natalia Casorati highlights emerging scenes from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Hungary, South Korea, Costa Rica, and Greece, noting that artists from countries with less government support often produce urgent work. Key performances include Marco da Silva Ferreira's 'Brother' (Portugal), Christos Papadopoulos's 'Opus' (Greece), Giuseppe Chico & Barbara Matijevic's 'Forecasting' (France/Hungary), and Goblin Party's all-female piece (South Korea). The festival expands into unconventional venues: Galleria Noire, GAM, Polo del '900, Parco Dora shopping center, and public squares in Barriera di Milano. Carlo Massari's 'A peso morto' is staged both at Parco Dora and Galleria Noire. The opening night at Teatro Astra pairs Italian duo Enrico e Ginevra with Demetrio Castellucci's music (their 'Harleking' selected for Aerowaves '19) and Marco da Silva Ferreira's company. Two companies are part of the Aerowaves network. The festival closes with 'OPEN SOURCE', an interactive performance curated by BlaubArt collective, inviting audience participation with food and drinks.
