International Jazzi Competition to Revive Ancient Shepherds' Shelters in Cilento
The Associazione Culturale Jazzi, founded in 2016, has launched an international ideas competition to restore and repurpose 'jazzi'—ancient temporary shelters used during transhumance—scattered across Monte Bulgheria in the Cilento and Vallo di Diano National Park (Salerno). The three-year project aims to recover slow paths and trails, regenerate the jazzi for overnight stays, and promote the territory of Camerota, known for music, art, food, and sports. Artists, designers, architects, landscape architects, social innovators, and creatives are invited to propose concrete interventions, including site-specific works and the adaptive reuse of the jazzi as a diffuse hospitality network. A jury comprising Mario Cucinella, Franco Farinelli, Joseph Grima, Ugo La Pietra, and Chris Torch will select three winners, with prizes of €15,000, €10,000, and €5,000. Proposals must be submitted by 11 October 2016. The association's team includes Katia Anguelova (curator, Artline Milano and co-director of Kunstverein), Francesco Franceschi (social activist, co-founder of lettera27, doppiozero, and cheFare), Agostino Granato (architect, InArch Campania board), Liviano Mariella (social activist, founder of Recollocal), Agostino Riitano (cultural manager, founder of Officinae Efesti and Rural Hub), and Valeria Verdolini (sociologist and activist, co-founder of cheFare).
